Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped nuts optional

Instructions 

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add sugar and salt, stirring constantly until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the mixture onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee and let them melt. Spread the chocolate evenly.
  6. Sprinkle chopped nuts over the melted chocolate if desired.
  7. Let the toffee cool completely before breaking it into pieces.
