- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup water
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Frosting
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking sheet.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and sugar.
In a saucepan, melt butter. Add water and cocoa powder. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
Pour the cocoa mixture over the flour mixture and stir until combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, vanilla, and salt. Add to the batter and mix well.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes.
For the frosting, melt butter in a saucepan. Add cocoa powder and milk, and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and powdered sugar until smooth.
Pour the frosting over the warm cake and spread evenly. Let it cool before serving.
