French Onion Soup Recipe
A classic French onion soup with caramelized onions, beef broth, and melted cheese on top.

- 4 large onions thinly sliced
- 4 cups beef broth
- ½ cup dry white wine
- 2 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
- 4 slices French bread toasted
- 1 cup Gruyere cheese grated
1. Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat.
2. Add onions and cook until caramelized, about 30 minutes.
3. Stir in sugar and salt, cook for another 10 minutes.
4. Add beef broth and wine, bring to a boil, then simmer for 20 minutes.
5. Preheat oven to broil.
6. Ladle soup into oven-safe bowls, top with toasted bread and grated cheese.
7. Broil until cheese is melted and bubbly, about 3-5 minutes.
